Took these on the balcony on a cloudy windy day, t3i, 24-105L, want to see how the PP came out, and did a crop on the last one, some feedback would be great, thanks

Is it the ISO? the focus? the Over sharpening?

Overall, how does the series look? And on the crop, how's the detail? Any improvement to be made?

White balance looks off to me (not on a calibrated monitor though) and overall flat, could be fixed with a curves layer which could be used to bring the midtones up a bit as well.

White balance,I always felt was a personal preference when it comes to portraits. Focus and sharpness are both nice. But,as tmoore pointed out,the photos are somewhat flat. Quick curves adjustment and you should be gravy.

Theres too much to be said. Maybe you'd like a more specific answer with something you are struggling with? I personally think they all look like bad snapshots but there are so many places to start from. So let us know exactly what you have troubles with.

briefly. ISO is fine. WB is fine. could use more exposure.

but mostly, you'd have to work on your composition

Thanks. These weren't meant to be actual meaningful shots, with composed, pre thought backdrops. More to test my detail level in portraits.

Aside from the good advice from the people above, I think #1 is a cute portrait that deserves some work. I like the wind-blown hair and she has a great expression. I'd soften the puffy lower eyelids and lighten the shadows under them. Keep experimenting and pay attention to what the light is doing in respect to creating shadows.

They all look (and histogram shows) under exposed. Bumping to the proper white point reveals a hot spot on the right cheek. Adjusting the mid point helps.

Look at the histogram in levels. That long gap between the graph and the right edge is the amount of under exposure.

Ya I seem to have Trouble understanding the way the histogram should help me evaluate the exposure... I need to work on that.

best way i learned that was when editting on lightroom, set preset to "auto exposure" and see what changes to your histogram. then study what changed in the image and what changed on the histogram.

goodluck!
