The game will last 4 Days and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #407."
Game ends Monday, February 13, at 17:00pm GMT.

LR3- Straightened. Cropped so the face of the pump occupied the center third, and center of the top third line bisects the dial.
Graduated filter -2.00 exposure on the bottom, another graduated filter -0.50 at the top.
Add slight bumps to clarity, fill light, black clipping, recovery
Reduced vibrance and saturation.
Med contrast curves adjustment.

I have replaced the picture with something a little larger on Flickr.

It's not for the size. But rather the number of bits used to code data. JPEG are 8 bits while RAW are 12 or 14 bits which allows more power when processing.

I realise that - the newer file is uncompressed TIFF format - hope that helps.

My version:

IMAGE: http://netti.nic.fi/~miksi79/images/potn/ba_406_mikko-2.jpg

PSE8: Adjusted levels. Duplicated bg, adjusted brightness to darker side a lot, erased everything else except tarmac/gravel. flattened. Made adjustmend layer twice for adjusting hue /sat fog greens and flowers. flattened. Clone stamped white sky away. Straightened a bit. duplicated bg, removed color, sharpened, erased everything except center area, layer mode to luminance, flattened. saved.

LR4: added presets: vignette, punch and some third which I forgot.

I wanted to try something I've never done before and make use of my Wacom tablet that I've been neglecting for about 2 years!

IMAGE: http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp49/dougle/POTN/BA_FuelPump406.jpg

Created a pattern using a new document at 100 x 100 pixels, filled with 50% gray, add noise filter- gaussian type at about 15%, edit>define pattern.
Duplicated the fuel pump background layer, added a pattern adjustment layer and picked the new pattern.
Added a new layer filled with white to use later, visibility turned off.
Added a new blank layer to paint on using the smudge tool set to normal blend, opacity 100%, sample all layers on, finger paint turned off.
Painted on the blank layer with the smudge tool using a default wet oil paint brush periodically turning on and off the white layer below to better see the results.
When I got tired of painting I made a duplicate of the background layer and ran a cutout filter set at 8, 2, 3, and moved this layer just below the pattern adjustment layer.
Next I changed the white fill layer to black, layer blend mode set to color, and added a little mask to reveal the digits on the pump face.
Finally added a new layer on top filled with 50% gray and added a canvas texture from the filter menu, layer blend mode set to soft light at 23% opacity.

edit: I almost forgot to mention the pattern layer needs to be turned off, after painting, for this edit. If I would have completed the painting part I could have left it turned on!

Ok...here goes, first post...ever...

Started with a layer copy and high pass filter overlay to sharpen the image, next masked out pump, hose, and foreground with a gradient guassian blur on the background and finally a lens flare on the pump handle.

Black and white conversion using CS5, with some adjustment layer to bring out the textures.

Here goes then folks - thanks to everyone.

T3Heavy Shop - Good job in a straight fix, the exposure change is a lot better.
Similae - no nasty white sky - good detail on the pump face - nice.
Douglas - I liked this except for the grey bits.
damccomb - Good touch with the flare on the pump handle and blur on the BG.
FstopMiami123 - I like the conversion and detail.

Tough decision this week, second place goes to FstopMiami123 but this week's winner and back to you - Similae.

Thank you! I was impressed with Douglas's edit, very nice indeed!

I'll dig my archives for next one, will be up in a short while.
