Here is the first official release from this weekends filming.

I didn't do the editing so can't take any credit, or pain, in that respect.

Enjoy (external link)

Very cool John! Well done by the both of you. That looks like a lot of hard work put in on all sides. The reenactors as well as the video crew. Hats off!

I do have to say though that I don't really care for the old film look. Especially once you've established the interview as a clean, modern shot, then the cutaway angle has the B&W, scratched film look thing going on. I say either use it through out or not at all. I'd vote for not at all.

I know you said you didn't do the edit, so no ding on you for that. Maybe you can let the editor know if more people here chime in and agree or disagree with me on that. I just think it looks too contrived and that someone is trying too hard. It works for the B-Roll shots (especially the metal being pinned on the German soldier. There it worked, not in the interviews.

Excellent work indeed. I love the two-shot interviews and the pacing of the video but like Chas, I dislike the overly obvious old film look, it looks little too forced.

Nice video....the fake aging real spoils it though. Get rid of that and you have a very well done piece.

Thanks for your thoughts chaps, I'll certainly pass them on.

Others have said the b&w footage looks too distressed and I am inclined to agree. While 70 year old film is seldom perfect that looks like some of the most abused film I have seen.

You might also suggest that the distressed film be "under cranked" just a little so that it runs a tad faster than normal.

And yeah, I have to agree that the film damage effect is just a little over cooked.

Marvelous production though and kudos to the the group for their authenticity. That level of detail can't come cheap.

And to finish off a little behind the scenes action.

It's a wonder we managed to get anything. (external link)
