So where would one sit in order to shoot these events? Usually these fields really do not have any good areas to get shoots from. I would like to venture out this spring and shoot some games. Any suggestions would be great.

Baseball from the third base line.
Standard positions are along one of the baselines, between home plate and the corners. There are no absolute advantages or disadvantages to either side. These images came from a small college game, where admission was free and angles were plentiful. Typically, a small-time game and the ball fields used gives you a wide range of angles to try.

Some of my top sales came from that game. If they know why you're there, (practicing/parent sales/news paper) most will not have an issue with it. D. Warren Robison

As DC stated, I'll setup along the first and third base lines. The first base line will get you good looks at right-handed batters, right handed pitchers, and plays at Third base and home plate. The third base line will get you good look at left hand batters, left handed pitchers and plays at first and second base and an occasional play at home plate. For baseball, the first two innings I'll setup on the first base line. Get shots of the batters and pitchers when they are right handed and then get what ever action I can. Then the third and 4th inning I'll move to the third base line and concentrate on the left hand batters and pitchers when needed. D. Warren Robison

I have found 200mm the minimum focal length for LL size fields and too short for outfield shots unless moving out to at least first or third base. Feb 11, 2012 10:42 | #8 I make it a point to introduce myself to the coaches, a lot of the parents know me from high school events. These kids don't get in the newspaper so most parents are glad to have someone take quality photos and will pay for prints. As far as position, I shoot from the first and third base lines and through the fence behind home plate. I usually bring a lite three step ladder to allow me to get shots over the fence on the baselines if they are not short.  HOSTED PHOTO please log in to view hosted photos in full size. Tim

Simply get permission before showing up to take photos.....especially if you want to take photos from locations around the field that aren't typically set up for spectators. IMO, I consider it somewhat rude and out of place for a photographer to simply show up to LL games without permission from the organizers (I'm talking about photographers that have no children or family members in the games)......I would liken it to showing up to someone's wedding without an invitation
