1. He holds the new generation lens, and mechanicly it feels like the old one
2. The new lens is lighter than the old one and one can notice it.
3. People expected to see the IS in this version, but it never happened.
4. The zoom mechanism changed, it is using a barrel zoom, which extends the lens.
5. The price is more, which makes it expensive
6. Quality of the photos will have to show whether this one is better

Something about the barrel extension just seems cheap to me. I'm not sure why. I was just thinking about this when I was using my 50 1.4 today; the hood completely hides the ugly extension when focusing.

Not that it really matters in the long run. In the end, it's all about the images you capture. Of course, you can make the argument that the long hood offered way better protection of the front element.
