FYI, this means it front-focuses at all apertures, not just wide-open. The reason why it's much sharper at f/5.6 for you is because the DoF has increased to the extent as to blanket over the problem of having missed focus. If you're convinced it's a front-focusing issue, send it into Canon for calibration. Yeah, I know, and when it hits at 2.8 it is nice and sharp too, but when looking at other things in the frame it appears that when it hits all the way open the subject is on the very back edge of the focal plane. And its still not terribly sharp at these values at really any aperture. Would you guys suggest sending it in to Canon for calibration? Mike Glatzer Photography

There is really no other choice if you want the performance the lens is capable of.

Feb 12, 2012 12:01 | #21 Doing some of the things suggested here, it looks like it is just unable to focus at the far end of the focal range. Using live view it left the targets noticeably blurry and an adjustment of the focus ring brought it in sharp. I could exchange it with the online store and keep playing the lottery, in which case I am out the return shipping, or I can send it to Canon as it is new and have this one hand examined and calibrated and repaired. Thoughts? I think my best option is to send it to Canon. Cameras: 7D2, S100
