Having had little success last weekend with the herons on a grey misty afternnon, I've been watching the weather forecast all week - finally sunshine this morning.

I decided to go to a different part of the local reserve today, an area where I understand there to be a heronry. Anyway, along the path, I came accross a tog with a large lens - seems only polite to stop and chat. We didn't talk cameras (he had a large body, looked like a Canon, and a large black lens, possibly a Sigma) - we just chatted about the birds - apparently many visitors regularly set out wild bird feed - the woodland was teaming with bird song.

I did continue along the path and I found the heronry, seeing about five herons in total.

With todays light I am mostly pleased with these results, although I still need to fine tune my tecnique with small birds.

I'm beginning to like the 100-400.

Nice series. I'm sure you're going to love the 100-400.

This is a nice set of images, Lawrence. Those little ones are difficult, aren't they? The LTT in the first image looks a bit soft/blurry, but the others look good. I like the Blue Tit best, followed by the Nuthatch and the Robin. All in all a good set.

Thank you for the kind and encouraging comments.

The Nuthatch has to be my favourite, as I rarely get to see them.

All the above were hand held, perhaps I should of unpacked the monopod. Mind you, now I know where they feed from, perhaps I should consider the tripod and wireless remote. Mind you, I think sitting on a branch would be more preferable to fencepost with feed.

Looking forward to next weekends walk already :D

You two seem to gel well already Lawrence. The images are good proof. :) Hope you get more sunshine day coming your way after the heavy snow. Look forward to seeing more. :)
