As many of you know (and obviously more probably don't), I decided to get out of sports photography quite a few months back. Combination of family obligations and frustration basically. Well, I happened to be at our local HS to take a few shots of my little guys doing a synchronized dribbling routine during halftime and since I had a camera in hand, just couldn't help but take a few action shots for old times sake. Needless to say, I was VERY rusty but I thought I'd throw a few up here anyway just for kicks. Hope all my POTN friends are doing well, shooting lots, and enjoying whatever you've been up to. Blessings all!

Exif is included but all are with a 1DMkIII/135 combo at 1/500s/1600/f2.2. Not bad at all (actually great) for HS lighting, even college lighting really. Crop, sharpen, levels in PP. No noise reduction (obviously) on any.

4. Borrowed a friends trigger for his AB800s for this one. He had them direct which I really didnt care for...

8. Kid hit a three after a full court inbound with 1.5 on the clock to win the game and the crowd seemed to like it.

These are fantastic! I need to get a 1DMkIII. Those shots are so clean. Do you shoot a custom WB?

Thanks. I did not for these since I was screwing around. If I were shooting for an outlet,,I would have definitely used one. The one strobes shot is the exception, I think I set it to 5800k for that one.

Great stuff as always, Scott. I miss shooting the boys' games so I'll continue living vicariously through you and the other HS basketball shooters here at POTN.

Really liked #6. Some of the best intensity can be found in that 2 on 1 situation during the second foul shot.

Good to see you post again Scott. I also like #6. Sometimes it is good to break the "rules".

I was very pleased to see the results of a 135L in HS basketball... most are 85/1.8 or 70-200/2.8.

I usually shoot an 85 offset from the baseline, but recently bought a 200/2.8L to try for sitting in the stands. It hasn't worked well for me because I can't follow the action well enough - due to narrow FOV and my own incompetence.

I had been thinking about trying the 135L, but couldn't find examples of it in low-light action situations. Your photos rock ! Thanks for posting.

Theron and Gator...thanks for having a look and the kind words on these. Like I said, there was some definite rustiness but I may go do another game just for the fun of shooting it. If I do, I'll be sure to post.

Gator, the 135 does very well but you should also consider the 100 f2 which is less than half that price. It's a great performer as well. For me, the 135 makes lots of sense since my hoops exif tends to show me in that 105-150 ragpnge most of the time. I also lime being able to add the TC to it if I want. Just something else to consider if you are lens shopping.

Love 'em. :)

I like to push buttons on thingies that take pictures. Sometimes I like to push other buttons, too.
I only bite on the second Tuesday of every week, usually only mean people - they kinda taste like chicken...
