CS5 Layer Order Question...Need Help

Im trying to get my son in front of the Japanese flag, while keeping the flag in the background.
I tried moving him to front ot moving the flag to the back....but I lose the flag.
What am I doing wrong?

You'll need to create a mask based on the boy for the flag layer (not as easy as it sounds, since it's white on white: You probably have to do it manually for instance using an airbrush on the mask).

As to why the colors are off posting here, do you have the shot in a "wide gamut" color space, such as Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB? Being in one of those color spaces then posting on the Web can result in "flat" colors when you view them in "generic" browsers or viewers.

You could try adding the flag above his layer & using a Blend Mode. Or this: Russell Brown Tips & Techniques: Advanced Masking

It is easy in CS5! But you still need a cutout of your son... so in the layer panel, you'll have on the bottom the background (original image) then the flag and on top of that the cutout of your son. Then you can adjust the transparency of the flag layer to suit. Are you familiar with masking?

CS5 has dramatically simplified the cutout selection process, and then you can click on refine edges to really tweak it. It's gotten so I barely use a stand alone masking program anymore. When you get close on your edges, you can start selecting by color range to get stray hairs and stuff as part of the selection.
