Have you done the upgrade? Happy you did or wish you hadn't?

On my 30D and 5D2 I've never found I've moved the mode dial accidentally. So no, I see no reason why I'd want to have the mod.

What I HAVE done is rub the rear dial against my chest while walking and moved it, so I'd like a method of locking that if Canon ever offer it.

I have bumped the dial on my 5D and 40D in the past. I've been careful with my 7D and so far, so good. My 1D is great in that you can't change anything by accident.

I would like to have one. I havn't moved it much, but I have during a couple of "panic times" that I really wish I wouldn't have. I don't mind the money so much, as the time of being without my camera. Wish it was something I could just buy and put on myself.

Both the 30D and the 5DII have 2 settings for the rear dial. If you switch it to the ON position instead of all the way to the dash, the rear dial will be disabled.

think this would be pretty useful on both my 7Ds that I use for wildlife. That kind of shooting can be a brief opportunity to capture something and in the rush I hace missed opportunities because my mode dial had moved, or I didn't have it set correctly. On my 5DII, doing mostly landscapes on a tripod, not so much.

I've been shooting with digital EOS cameras for over 10 years.. 10D -> 7D.

I've never bumped the top dial accidentally.. It takes a fair bit of effort to move it and it makes a fairly loud clicking sound as the mode changes. I can't see how it could happen accidentally. I'll save my $100 for something more worthwhile :)

It is only a risk if you shoot vertical shots. I shoot a lot of basketball, mostly vertical shots. It is easy to bump the mode dial.

Its funny, when the 60D came out, practically everyone complained about the locking button on the mode dial It never bothered me. Now, it appears that some with other camera models want the same feature that was largely condemned on the 60D.

First I've heard of this and I'm sending mine in tomorrow. This has been my one glaring criticism of my 7D, I'm constantly bumping that dial by accident.

I've moved it bringing it out of the bag and it moved from manual to bulb.

I like it on my 60D. The dial is in a position where it would be easy to bump when carrying it on a sling. Just a little thing that ensures that nothing changes accidentally.

I agree, but there was almost universal condemnation for this feature when the camera was introduced. I think it was related to the general backlash against this camera because of the various "downgrades" from the 50D. You know, downgrades, like a better sensor, higher pixel count, better metering, and a better LCD screen. It seemed like every new feature was fair game.
