Most of them seem far away. Where exactly were you situated and what focal length lens were you using? They're uploaded at such a small size that even a grainy photo is going to look ok at that size so as far as quality, that's hard to say. In #6 his face is totally blocked, that gets deleted in camera for me personally. 3, 4 and 5 are the only ones that don't get deleted in camera for me. There are things about each of the others that I don't like. #1 has blur on the extremities. #2 is just too far away and from the wrong side. #3 could be cropped to about the players numbers who are on the ground. You've already cut off his foot so there's no reason to stop there, makes it closer to the action as well. #4, same thing, needs a cropping. #5, too much floor below defender's shoes, crop it right up to them.#7 blur again, and it has extreme horizon problems. He's running uphill. I hope you'll take the critique in the spirit it was given. I'm not trying to be an ******* but these are just my honest thoughts on them. As far as cropping, don't be afraid to cut stuff off. Sports photography has a little more leeway as far as that kind of thing is concerned because we don't have the ability to pose the subject so we get what we get sometimes.

Thanks a lot this was about my third game I think? Thanks for the tips though they are really going to help. For some of them I was taking pictures from the baseline but for about 3 others I was back near the bleachers.

I think your capture of the action is quite good. There's some PP which might make your subjects "stand out". Do a search on DC Fan's posts - he's a wizard at this.

I did, I learned a few things. But one thing that I kind of have to sacrifice is my shutter speed b/c my 40D s ISO only gets up to 1600

EDIT: I put in a few pictures from my very first game (ECU girls)

Also I was using a 70-200 F/4l non is for majority of these a friend of mine let me use his 2.8 for a few.

I used to shoot with a 40D, and with ISO expansion turned on in custom functions you can get up to ISO 3200. That will with your shutter speed, but you will have to deal with the noise as the 40d can get a little noisy at ISO 3200.

I will be shooting the ECU vs UCF game this weekend. It's already been mentioned on shooting tight and cropping tight. As you shoot more you will start to see when to shoot tight, shoot even tighter and when to shoot wide, all this is subjective anyways in what you like, how you want to tell the story and what your client wants. Just keep shooting and learning.
Good Luck.

This shot was shot loose, I did not need the lower parts of the scene so I cropped it tight to emphasize the shot.

This was already shot tight but I cropped even tighter.

This shot I could have gone either way crop it tight or keep it wide, I decided to go wide because it showed the coach in the BG

The main problem I have of these photos, is that the subject is EZU.....And yes, I am biased (Go State) :p.
