I have a Canon HFS30 and a 2011 iMac.
I just did something stupid.
I was copying files from the camera to the computer and it said that it could not copy them...
I had already watched them in the camera and I saw they were there
I only found one file in the folder, however
I stupidly opened the memory card door to see if I had a memory card in there (could not remember)
the whole camera locked up
Tried to eject the camera disk icons from desktop - it would not
tried to turn off the camera - it would not
It locked up my desktop
I turned off the comptuer
I tried to turn off camera and disconnected the USB cord
I unplugged the camera and it still would not turn off
ACCESS light is blinking
I finally looked it up in the manual of camera
on page 137 it says to not do everything I did
or I would have permanent data loss
right now I would be grateful to get the camera working again, though devastated at the loss

I had never had this probem, I should have looked at the manual first...
however, I also find nothing in the manual on exactly what happens and how to fix it, nothing in Troubleshooting Section

can anyone help me?
have I ruined my thousand dollar camera?
I saved up to buy it - will I have to pay more to fix it?

thank you in advance,
Janet

If the camera won't switch off remove the battery. You have to show these little devils who's the boss.
