Which one goes?

Obviously, there are a lot of threads on which camera someone should buy. Here is the reverse.

I have a 50D. I purchased a 40D with the intentions of converting it to IR. After I got the 40D I decided it was to nice of a camera to convert and probably wouldn't do as much IR as I originally thought. So, I have two very similar crop cameras.

I just got a great deal on a 5D (classic) so one of the crops must go.

Which should I send packing?

Sell the one you will get the most for.

That means sell the 50D, right? I could not, in all conscience, urge you to sell the 40D (unless it has seen a lot of wear including high shutter count).

i'd sell the 50d.

I would sell the 40D so all in all these replies haven't really helped

both and pick up something better than both with the new funds.

Do you need the effective 1.6x reach advantage of a crop body or higher frames per second? If not then sell both, otherwise I'd keep the 40D. Depends what you shoot.

Wow, I have to congratulate some of the posters here. "Sell both, buy new glass". And what, put the glass on your desk as a trophy? What the hell will he use to shoot through the glass???

Go back and read the OP's post carefully, then slap yourself in the face.

I mainly shoot wildlife and macro. Yes, I know the crops are "better" for getting closer to wildlife. I have a 24-70L, 100-400L, 180L (macro), 1.4 Extender, 100 (non-L) Macro and a 10-22mm (won't work on 5D. So, I have glass.

You get micro adjust and more resolution on the 50D, something to weigh when deciding that $100 difference when selling is worth it.

...and better lcd resolution on the 50D. I would sell the 40D.
