When it comes down to it the 5Dc was designed before Win7 came to mind. Mine doesn't get recognized by the system, either. If you can find a friend that has an older system and they allow you to download the EOS you might get it that way.

See the below thread ...

I suppose Win2000 would work? I could dual-boot

Maybe your Communications setting in the menu got changed - Print/PTP or PC Connect?

j-dogg,

I assume you have checked out that you have the latest software versions thats 60D suitable? The disc that came with the camera is often out of date, I know my 5D2 in November 2011 came with out of date software which I updated at Canon Europe.

The disc I used came with a 60d I borrowed it from a local camera store I do work for periodically.

Win 7/EOS never recognised my 5Dc either but Bridge/CS5 worked fine.

But the OP tried with an XP machine and that doesn't work.

Most problems seemed to be solved by running EOS utility in the XP Virtual mode under win 7

That suggests camera coos problem.

PTP only allows file transfers, at a hellaciously slow rate compared to my card reader.

What I'm trying to do is tether it to a PC for my studio so the client can see it straight off the camera (and I can check focus accuracy and things of the like)

Otherwise the camera works flawlessly, just got it back after having sent it in for the mirror fix. Would a firmware update fix this?

Won't work with Win 7 Home (need Ultimate/Pro for the XP Mode).
Install the latest EOS Utility version, from the Canon support download site, on the XP laptop.
Install the latest 1.1.1 firmware on the 5D.
run it in pc comms mode.
Should work

The OP is trying to connect up a 5D, a model that is considerably older than the 60D. Even if the version on the disc is not the latest, it surely is not 6 years old.

j-dogg, I seem to remember something about EOS Utility at some point ceasing to support tethering to older models. It may have been when Live View was introduced (1DMk3). Check with Canon, but you may need an older version of EOS Utility. No idea where you can find it.

The latest EOS Utility works fine on the 5Dc...albeit it being VERY limited in functionality compared to the LV cameras, of course!!
