Hello. Long time lurker ready to make the jump into posting photos. I would love to hear C&C so I can improve.

This is just an engine that I was able to catch one day. Luckily the security guy in the train yard was decent and let us snap a couple shots before chasing us away. PP was done in Lightroom and all I know is I turned it from color to B&W and played with settings until I liked what I saw. Would love to hear tips, criticism or comments.

Welcome aboard
Nice shot and b&w conversion
It's sharp and a nice composition.

My one nit pick is the steel girders. We all take the shots we can reach. Any way you can get the train in free space? or in a position to explain the girders. ie is it a bridge. Maybe even step back from the subject. Just something to give it context.

I do understand the restrictions however.

Thanks. It is a train bridge. There is a walking trail that goes underneath it. We had to climb a small hill then hop a fence to stand on a small ledge just to get that. Security was nice enough to let us get that shot and then quickly hop another railing to get right on the tracks for this shot.

Thanks.

No, its not country side. Its a city of about 100,000. The place where I took these is a short distance from the downtown core.

I agree. Or maybe you could have shot just a bit sooner to get the front in the empty space between the girders.

First shot is a little tight, but not bad. I suspect color would have been a better choice, simply to give it some pop. CN has nice red locos.

Thanks. Had I time to prepare I would have done that. This was pretty much a see the engine coming, climb the hill and jump the fence before it got there. I was lucky to get that shot I think. My gf was right behind me and missed getting anything worth shooting.

Here is the same shot with a little work done in LR. I am not even close to knowing very much about the editing so I am not sure if I can do something to remove the dirt from the red part of the engine but too me that\s very distracting thus putting it in B&W.

I'll take the color version any day. A little dirt shows that it is working.

Just be careful with trespassing. I have heard that the CN does not play games and I have heard stories over on TrainOrders about people getting into problems with johnny law.

Like the B/W conversion on the first photo; keep up the effort!
