That looks pretty bad. If it isn't sharp by f2, what's the point?

Also I saw from another thread that it's $799? That's really not much of a saving imo....half of that maybe ok.

I'd rather spend a bit more and get the 24LII. Sharper and with AF.

yeah, I am glad I did not wait, and just picket up the 24 1.4 II. I love my samyang 14. I am also with you, if I need to stop down to 2.8 to get decent image, whats the point of a 1.4?

There would still be a point if it was sharper than anything 24mm and more expensive when stopped down. 24-105 ain't pretty at 24mm on FF even at f/8 at the edges. There would be a point if it was sharper than the 24 2.8 stopped down. etc.

They were bound to make a dud eventually! Their 8FE, 14, 35, 85 are all really good.

The 35mm is very good at all apertures, even at f/1.4, it's surprising that the 24mm don't... and the price tag can hardly be justified.

I wouldn't take a Samyang if it was given to me...

Could be they got a dud copy. Seems out of line given their track record.

My friend got hold of two copies of this lens the past week.
He compared it to the Canon 24/1.4L II and Nikon 24/1.4 on a 5DmkII
The Samyang was better in the edges and less vignetting.
Softer in the middle than the Canon but sharper than the Nikon.
Since we both do lots of nights images, the coma is way better than the Canon and Nikon. And you see it on the stars deformation on the edges.
So don't write this lens off yet.
We went out last night to test it out but the clouds came in too quickly for me to test it against the star filled sky.

I seem to recall that Lenstip works pretty closely with Samyang. In the review of the 14mm, don't they talk about an early, poor, copy, and after they ripped on it Samyang went back to the drawing board and made a much better one? Hopefully the same will happen here. They are already several months behind their initial projected release date, however, which might suggest they ran into serious problems they don't know how to fix.

You wouldn't take a samyang or this particular samyang if given to you?

I love the 85mm and 8mm. They really outdid themselves on these lenses... plus both can be had (used) for 500 dollars total.
