Has anybody else noticed that despite the thousands of dollars invested in camera equipment, most of the photos of the boxes are just plain lousy? Out of focus, poor backgrounds, needing color correction, no level horizontals, etc.

maybe taken by P&S instead of DSLR ;):D hope not taken by mobile camera as well.

Not meaning to single you out. But your post did make me finally ask the question. I've seen other people posting pics with these types of boxes and really wondered why anyone would save them.

I see we're neighbors.

It's ok I just wanted to justify them :). And wow I didn't even notice that at first. I don't even know any photographers around here, guess I do now!

They're quick, not art. It's more like, "Another useless thread but I'll do it any way. *snap* Ok, it's done."

Shoot, it ain't like I'm going to take my boxes on location or something. Not everyone has a studio or plain wall to stack boxes up against so the background is clean. It's a simple shot, nothing more.

instead of arguing, just try it. i have bought and sold way over $50k in the past year or so and i can tell you right now, that the small details like box and manuals are what makes the sale quicker and bring you a bit more money.

and as for your second point, again, try it instead of saying that it is silly. in the past month i have sold about lenses all for almost exactly what i paid for them or even a bit more. the beauty of buying a in-demand item used is that you can use it and if you don't like it, sell it for exactly what you paid for it or even a bit more if you are lucky.

Ill second that! Having everything that originally came with ANY item you are selling makes a BIG positive difference to both buyer and seller.

The answer is:...............

To post them here in boxes show off :lol::lol:;):p

So far, this is the only answer I've seen that makes any sense to me...

Yeah, I've noticed that a lot of the people posting pictures of their boxes have no links in their sigs to their images, but they do have links to their gear. Hmmm...

Until reading this tread I had not considered the resale value of equipment in boxes.
I just compulsively save boxes.

Thank you.
As for not getting good money for your L's, I usually get an amazing return...typically 90-95%.....Also, people ask me constantly when I'm selling gear if I have the box, manual and card...In fact, I like to have all that when I buy too....Maybe it seems more new....maybe it isn't newer...... but perception is a big part of any sale.
I also agree that these shots aren't "art" aren't our work, but snapshots for fun.
Cheers all, keep it light, it's all in fun

Oh, why I keep all the junk... yeah, guilty :P

For me I guess it goes the other way around: why throw it away ? It's not like I have a shortage of space atm. And they serve as a nice place to put the stuff away in when I stop using it at some point. I do hope I don't stop using them any time soon by the way...

Ok, so I'm just bad at throwing stuff away :P
