Ok have come into some money ( not enough for the 100 USM or L) which would you choose, PURE MACRO?

For pure macro.. the Sigma. If you want to use it for portraiture. or just anything you would use a fast prime for.. then Tamron. The only reason i'd take the Siggy, is the extra 15mm.. for a "touch-longer" working distance.

If you can give up a little working distance the the Canon 60mm is a better choice than the Sigma or Tamron - IMO. If you can find/stretch to a Canon 100mm F2.8 (non IS) new or used it is an excellent lens, I use one and after trying the new 100 L I can see no reason to change. The L is nicer/smoother functioning and better built - but I could not find any worthwhile (or noticeable) difference in the IQ.

What about the tokina? Its in the same price bracket, I'd pick that one over those 2. If you mean you've found used versions of those 2 within your budget, then I'd probably go sigma.

Thanks,

I would choose the Tamron 90mm 2.8 - plenty of good PURE MACRO

Neither, I would get the Canon 100mm macro usm non-L and preferably used. Though if you can afford the Sigma, I would wait a month or two and save and get the Canon L.

Thanks for Reading & Good Luck - Jim

That's the lens I use, I have looked at the L but, IMO, it's not worth the extra.
