forgot to mention.. i purchased a grip.. not a canon oem.. and dont know what aftermarket name.. but came with dual battery tray, AA battery tray and 2 x 1500mah batteries (stock are 1200 or so right??)
used it and WOW is all i can say.. while it does make the camera bit heavier.. it balances out my 24-105L nicely and when just holding the camera at your side.. the contour is nice...will post some pics and try and get an actual model number off of it.. no problems so far and for portrait shots. it made taking pics so much easier...

Nice if that is meike we have the same, I have no issue at all with the grip I love it my friends don't think I have t2i when they see it with the grip. Love it. Congrats on the purchased.

That looks like the Meike, which is the one I got for Christmas. I agree that it's awesome. I love everything about it other than the slight change in feel of the buttons. I hardly notice though, because the feel is still high enough quality that I have no problems with half press sensitivity or anything. Still working great 5 months later, and I shoot soccer games exclusively portrait now.

Congrats on the purchase. That's about the price I paid, but I lucked out as mine came with two batteries. Prepare for battery charging quarterly. I think I've had to charge/swap mine twice since Christmas with probably 15K actuations. The batteries seem to last more than 2x compared to a single. Doesn't really make sense, but it seems like a ridiculous amount of time between charges.

I got the Meike too, but mine only came with 1 battery. I just ordered an extra Canon one, and now I get months of shoots on 1 charge (plus if you use Canon ones, the camera will still show you the battery life remaining). I had a panic a few weeks back as I had zero idea where my charger was lol. Had to hunt around for 30 minutes.

And I agree it makes it feel like a whole new camera. I'm 6'7, so it used to feel like a toy in my hand. Now it's the right size. Had models say that they weren't expecting my mate (who also has a t2i but ungripped) to take good photos because he had a tiny toy camera compared to mine :p. Didn't want to explain to them lol.

Few more from yesterday:

I wish Peter. It was a rental I was testing. Has strong possibilities for an eventual purchase, but not before the 10-22mm....... I think.

I see. Yeah the 10-22mm went down a bit. Got mine in CL for $5xx.00 last year in excellent condition. The refurb is not bad either.

Nice shots, Anne. Have you considered the Tammy 17-50 non vc instead of the Canon? Real happy with mine. would leave you some money left over for the 10-22! :) i just snagged a refurb 10-22 for approx $550 from the most recent canon sale. looks brand new, not a mark on it.

I probably would have considered it, but I just sold my Tammy 70-300 because it was so inconsistent on focusing. Went back to the 55-250 which I was always happy with.

I really would like to have the 10-22, but I sometimes think I'm better off renting some of these lenses, because I just wouldn't get enough day to day use out of some of them, and it's cheaper to just rent when I need them.

:)

Hey guys hows it going?

Don't get on here often anymore.

I had a question.

Whats the biggest print you have done with the 550?

i hear you. these lenses don't come cheap. some are more reasonable than others but... as for renting, i'm considering renting a 70-200 f4 is for my trip to costa rica next month. like you, i have the 55-250 and am generally happy with it. however, if the light isn't perfect, i find mine misses more than nails the focus. i am considering the 70-200 so maybe the rental would be a wise decision since i will be spend around $1000

Is f/4 fast enough for Costa Rica? I was there in January of 2009, and even though that was dry season, there was quite a bit of rain and clouds. Then again, I find my 300L f/4 seems able to handle almost anything.

I love Costa Rica. Can't wait to go back (hopefully next year).

yes, hoping it's fast enough...i don't really want to lug the 2.8 around. it won't be any worse than the 55-250! figure the 10-22 will be nice if i can get in good position for volcano shot

Don't know if you're interested, but I have some Costa Rica shots on my flickr page (it's a set). Got Arenal after 2 days of waiting for the clouds to lift. I was disappointed though because my equipment (my old Minolta stuff/Bigma) was not cooperating, so I wasn't able to get night shots which would have been incredible.
