Got a few good shots of an osprey in his nest taking off a couple days ago.
None of these are cropped except the one where hes still perched sitting in the nest. The rest are at regular full frame and a little PP, but no crop.
Most of these were @ 300mm focal length. ISO 100. F/7.1-8.0 and 1/500.

Not unhappy with the lens but more pissed at myself for not ever getting shots like you have when I have the tubes on the zoom. If I could have got just once or twice got such shots and not other times then it was certainly a technique rather then equipment issue.

So what I should have done is keep at it and spend that grand on something more useless. hehe

Great catch KA. Show more of these birds, they may not be eagles but are awesome in their own right.

I don't usually do "flower" shots anymore , but i experimented with different processing styles , each took me less than 2 minutes . Which do you prefer ?

Thanks Mitch.

We complain when they are too far away and our lens cannot reach them.

I am filing a complaint against these 2 for being way too close making it almost impossible to frame properly.

Birds really do not like having their pics taken and find ways to make the life of photographers as difficult as they can.

Flowers - not your thing bud. But changing to something else keeps us from stagnating.

I like 1, 3 and 4.

^ Mitch, I vote #3.

These two shots are getting an unusually high amount of traffic on flickr (for me). Don't know why...

I hate when wildlife does not cooperate!

Nice series KA!

Thanks jamz - you were being kind and should have added "and still complain"! :)

As I was saying to Mitch earlier we need to break away at times or stagnate, either in what/how we say things or better still in our photography.

----

Monkey - cute factor goes a long way on these photo sites but pretty sure #2 got more of that traffic. Reminds people of when they too were like that. I too would have added to the traffic but I don't usually go there. Nice shots btw.

And thanks for the like.

Fugu : Great shots , but on my monitor , they're a tad under-exposed . just a little bit . (let me know if i need to re-calibrate :) )

They, most likely, are underexposed. I don't know how to deal with harsh, late morning light. Plus, I have a tendency to underexpose my pics. Probably a beginner preference? I'll make some adjustments and see if I like it any better.

Love your #1 & 3 but leaning towards #3 more. Great bicycle man, b&w.

Great birds, KA and Bobobird!

Cute model, Monkey Mash Button! Isn't he one of the triplets from the other pic? ;)

Yup, had a frustrating time at the park with those darn, uncooperative wildlife. I came home with nothing worth posting.

Hey guys hows it going?

Don't get on here often anymore.

I had a question.

Whats the biggest print you have done with the 550?

20x30, of this one, on metallic paper.

Thanks Fugu.

Don't worry about it. No keepers is what keeps us motivated. Trying reading the same book every night.... you get the idea.

Underexposure - there are 2 ways to deal with that. If you are using AV, up the EV but 1 or 2 but make sure you do not blow that background. The first couple of shots will tell you what the correct settings will be. Just make sure that when you are shooting something without the harsh background to switch the EC to whatever you are used to.

The 2nd one is bracket and merge - but do not give it a HDR treatment. Moving subjects will be a bit of challenge but can be done.
