I see it's been another great week on the thread -- I was out of town on vacation and can't quite catch up, but lots of amazing stuff (DT, Justin, Peter, Shaigs...)

DT: Regarding land formations and water, I noticed a lot of old river rock (smooth, rounced rocks) on top of a mountain in Denver. They were aged and pitted, but clearly not made directly from broken crust. Things really do change!

Whoa. You really gotta stay on top of this thread. Two days go by and it takes me an hour to go through the photos. Great job guys.
I tried to comment on everyone's photo... some of y'all are in here twice. I'm sincerely sorry if I missed anyone...

Why? The old stuff works really well ;)

trying a new style out myself. a little more vintage/film/gritty to these. It is still cinematic a lot of the time.

I like it. I think it works better for the indoor shots. The kitty diptych is neat-o... any reason for choosing 2 frames instead of 1,3,4,5, etc?

Some more from back home

I like #1 and #2(!) but I never get to see horses rolling around so that has the most "WOW!" factor for me. It would be interesting to see that same scene with different (longer) shutter speeds and get some motion blur in there.

From yesterday

I have been really impressed with your photographic eye recently. I'm partial to "threes" and I agree that the white streak should stay in "geometry." In fact, you should figure out what caused it and hone that skill :)

been trying different things lately :

"Splash of heaven" seems to be really well balanced. I really dig the People of Montreal series you've been into. The one in this post (man on train) is really cool because you get a quick glimpse into his life... so the included window in the photo is very symbolic.

Wow, that's a crazy little pattern he's carrying around on his back. That's a sexy/soft background he's walking on... that could be tough to pull off in a macro shot.

Canon 500mm Mirror lens again

I've been eyeballing those lenses... do you have problems getting it focused?

I've been meaning to try this. Did you use Manual mode?

B&W nature shots rock! And I like the emotion little kids show... is the little girl screaming or yawning?

Extra creamy smooth. The one with the airplane is especially cool. Are those colors SOOC?

The tints work really well for this type of shot. Nice contrast between the detail shot and the "big picture" shot.

It very tricky to get focus right. As you know the f stop is fixed at 8. Lately I have been upping the ISO to 1600 to further improve my results. Im doing this because I was noticing that a lot of the softness in my pics were related to camera shake. I hate using a tripod! LOL! So with increased ISO I can use faster shutter times. Im noticing much sharper images that way, and believe me a mirror lens can be quite sharp. I followed these for a long time and found that the vintage canon ones are one of the best in terms of IQ. Downside is that they are FD mount and the adapters tend to degrade IQ...honestly maybe I got lucky with mine but I tested the lens with and without the adapter glass and did not noticed a significant difference.

What FD adapter are you using?
I already have the cheap Bower one... the lens element is adjustable but I never took the time to fine tune it for all 7 of my FD lenses

All were taken with the vintage Takumar 50mm. The fly shot is approximately a 150-200% crop of the original.

Thx Marm
I personally never seen such thing either with a horse. It was amazing how much love this animal
has for my father. He bought him of a guy as a baby almost diying. He took good care of him and look at him now. He sees my pops and he runs all over the place like a puppy when his buddy comes home. My dad went inside the ranch and started dancing and just doing silly things and the horse was just jumping and kicking, running and oviously, throwing himself on the ground. Hahaha it was fast so I shoot like I maniac with to time to correct my cam but I captured some good enough stuff.. I'll see if I can put together a small sequence of all the pics. My dad was laughing but at the same time he said "Look how happy he is but If he gets me with one of those kicks, he'll kill me"

The plane pic all I did was add more vibrance and a bit more contrast. That's was about it if I remember correctly..

Thx for your comment waterrockets.. Things do change my friend..

Much improved shots Brain. You are really putting that thing through its paces. Well done.

BTW, according to a guy who both uses and collects old lens the sharpest mirror is one that was made in Russia.

Great story there DT about the horse and your dad.

Thanks bobobird! Yeah I read about the Russian one, but the models he mentioned were difficult to find.
