do you follow Syl Arena's work? Ever since I saw his stuff with multiple 580s I have wanted to get a bunch more flashes...
have you played with the HSS + 3 flashes? Now THAT sounds like fun!!!

Yep, I dig Syl. I would love to get a bunch of 580EX IIs (or 600EXs!), but discretion said 420EXs. That triple bracket is really great and really heavy. I only have two lightstands, which are budget-grade and can barely hold it. My next acquisitions will be a better quality lightstand, sandbags, and a softbox. (then the 1Dx and some L glass, etc.)

And yes, I'm looking forward to playing with HSS!

"Casimiro's Happiness"

Best... uhhh.. collage (?) that I have seen in a loooong time. Most of the others I've seen weren't really worth looking at IMO but this one really needed this treatment. I'm glad you did it and I'm gald I saw it :)

sunset photos

I love the colors in the first two, especially the second one. That bronze-y look works very well for a sunset IMO

happy couple photo

IMO this photo is about the two lovers and not as much about the environment. While I think this is a good piece "as-is" I think it could be stronger if the photo were cropped down a little to put more emphasis on the couple and less on the field. But I tend to lean towards heavy cropping in my own photos so I might be biased :)

1. Me playing with the 420EX that came with my DSLR. I'm a "warm" kind of guy :p

Ha! I love the facial expression.

Sippy Cup 2

Very nice... I love the lighting. IMO (FWIW) I would crop off a little of the right side and then that photo would live on my living room wall... if he were my son, of course. I think it is a strong piece.

Here's my POTD. There was a traffic jam on my morning commute... it's always the rubber-neckers that slow everything down ;)

Yeah, a used 420 is actually reasonably priced. It's hard to pass up a "cheap" flash especially when you know you are going to be using 3,4,5 of them at the same time. The price of 580s and 600s is unreasonable IMO. At least for my style of photography.

Any hints? Ooooh! No, wait! Surprise us! And make it soon... I'm impatient...

littlebay: wonderful portrait
marm o set: great bike silhouette, as DT says, colors are awesome, and exposure is perfect
monkey mash button: love the triplet flash -- almost makes the outdoor fence look like an indoor studio :o
Peter: great sunset shots -- great colors (watch the horizon in PP though!)
DT: nice captures of the horse antics. I just finished (re-)reading "A Horse and His Boy (external link)" to my kids last night, and this reminds me of Bree getting his last good roll in before he goes into Narnia, where he's not sure if it's appropriate for Talking Horses to roll in that society...

You know you can easily wow me when you include typography. Combine that with warm colors and you've got a winner in my book ;)

Marm, you're right about the crop. I just couldn't chop the curls.
P.S. That Morning Commute shot is fabulous!

Michel, your stuff is always so strong and so graphic. You make it look easy!

Thanks, Peter.

...and Waterrockets, your complement was the perfect flattery!
