Neighborhood being loosley defined as 30 minute drive from my house, though most of these were taken much closer. Being a retired Air Force train geek, I am lucky to live near both an air base and lots of railroads!

1. BNSF UPS train running through Franklin Canyon California

2. Same train but switchign from 7D with the 100-400 to the 5D with the 16-35

3. Amtrak California running along San Pablo bay at Pinole California

4. A rainbow of paint schemes running light through the canyon.

5. I love the compression in this one. The Bay Bridge is at least ten miles away from where I took this at Point Pinole Regional Park. 6 old GP engines running light back to Martinez California.

6. After they passed under the bridge I was on.

7. Westbound container train at Pinole California

8. Afternoon UPS train over Pinole Creek bridge.

Very nice. I like trains and wish I had an area around me that was so open like that.

For real! Great shots from some very ideal locations compared with what I have to work with in the same radius from my house in the northeast. Good job.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words. #7 is one of my favorites, and was taken with my 7D at 275mm with the 100-400L. It is quickly becoming my favorite train hunting setup, at least until I pull the trigger (possibly) on a 1D IV (My tax refund is almost exactly what it costs!).

I am very lucky in that the Union Pacific runs along the shore here where there are a ton of regional parks, so there is plenty of legal access to the tracks. It works out well for me as I am partially disabled and can't really crawl through the bush to get shots anymore. Plus we have had a real mild winter here, so plenty of good magic hour light right after work to take advantage of.

Some very nice train pictures!! Favorite is no 7 also. I live close to a high amount of train traffic so as soon as my health and weather allows, I will be looking for some good sites to take photos. Will post when I get them!

Number 7 looks great, as do the rest of them. We were out in a boat in San Pablo Bay a few months ago, and watched the Amtrak train (#3) go through that turn where you took your picture, your view looks much better.

I never knew the Bay Area will have good places to shoot trains. :D Will love to visit there since I'm near Oakland, sometimes I hear the blow horn at night.

Thanks, glad you liked them. No, I love the photos on that site, but I don't have time to deal with submitting photos to their moderators to be rejected and trying to edit to please them. It's their site and they can run it as they please of course, and I do look at it, but I prefer to post here and other places.

One more from this weekend, the BNSF unloading their UPS train at the UPS facility in San Pablo California
