If they are not your images, you should link to them rather than actually showing them here - Before a Mod appears... ;-)a

I figured since I didn't alter the HTML BBcode, and still enabled the pictures to be linked to the photographer's Flickr page; that it wouldn't be a problem.

I'm sure a helpful mod will come along to help you interpret the TOS. ;)

just get rid of the [IMG] tag and leave the url alone. or I suppose you could wait till a mod comes and edits it if you're not sure what to get rid of...then look at your post afterwards (see what changed).

that said, part of the processing looks like desaturation. I'm not really that great at this, so that's all I can really say.

When you say that you want to get "this look" - have you tried describing what you see, say, in relation to what a regular old unprocessed color image might look like?

There are a couple of steps involved in this kind of thing:

1) identifying what the image possesses that you want to emulate in your images
2) reverse engineering the effects, lighting, DOF etc. to achieve number 1.

Try (1) and it will probably help you identify the techniques used to achieve (2).

For starters, the photographer is going for a certain look - an urban, retro, gritty look with desaturated color, a sepia tint in the shadows and boosted local contrast. There is also a boost of local exposure shaped somewhat like a circular area, causing that part of the image to wash out. The photographer has probably used a few plug-ins to achieve these edits, which is why the images you linked to look just like the zillions of others just like them on Flickr. The same effects these plug-ins achieve can be done in Photoshop and probably even Lightroom if you try.

Try similar shots in the late afternoon or early morning when you have nice directional light to give yo the contrast and rim lighting you might want.

Good luck!

It mostly looks like lots of desaturation, except for the first shot. There doesn't look like a color shift that I can see, so I don't think there's any simulated cross-processing or dual toning going on. The first sample especially looks pretty high contrast - I wouldn't be surprised if he used a B&W layer on that one to heighten the contrast, and maybe the second one also; the third shot is pretty "flat" compared to the first one.

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

The first one seems to have some kind of tonemapping or HDR going on since there's a halo around the lady.

This is what I'd do to start with. Duplicate the layer, convert to mono, set the blend mode to something like Overlay or Soft Light, drag the Opacity slider to the left until it looks good. But I think he's probably done more than this.
