Thanks for your thoughts. Is there much difference between Aperture and Lightroom as far as capabilities? Looks like Aperture is a beefed up version of iPhoto. It seems like more people favor Lightroom though.

You're the only one who will be able to determine which is better for you. The only reason why Lightroom is so much more "favored" in a forum like this is because LR works with Windows as well as Macs!
I do hear Apple users who prefer Aperture, and others who prefer Lightroom. The reasons vary.
Best advice -- download the trials for each, try and compare.
But, part of that process should be to take time to learn about each with some depth!
