Feb 14, 2012 12:01 | #4 well, according to the guys on SD they're not. They're not listed on Canon's list. So even if it's a good deal, I myself would hesitate to jump on it. But when you need service, all they care about is that it isn't stolen and that you show something for it. In fact I've gotten service without receipts more than 5 times on lenses and bodies. The "authorized dealer" thing is over-rated. At least in my (extensive) experience. Not if you get a gray market camera you don't. And they can tell by serial number.

K6AZ Cream of the Crop More info | Feb 14, 2012 14:05 | #11 Well, I've had two 7D bodies and neither one had any issue at all. In fact the only problem I've ever had with a new Canon item was a 17-40 that obviously took a blow in shipping and was so far off MA did no good. Got a replacement and that was perfect.

My last 2 repairs/calibrations were on a 2 week old 7D and a 2 month old 24-70 2.8 L. Both times Canon sent me a $300+ estimate and required me to send them proof of purchase before they would do anything under warranty. Cameras and lenses...

So in one sense it's up for grabs. But if you sent in any receipt (from some store, be it authorized or not) it would most likely, in my experience, be sufficient.
