Hello everyone. I think have an idea what could be causing this, but Whenever I shoot children that have brown hair, the finial image always shows the hair as looking red.....
My first hunch was a white balance issue so I tried auto WB and custom WB with a grey card....didn't help. I use Alien Bee 800 strobes. I've heard that sometimes they produce a "pinkish" hue but it's only the hair and not the overall image.
Again, I'm at a loss on this one but it's getting really frustrating. I'm not sure how to fix this. Does anyone else have similar issues? anyone have a fix? Thanks.

I swear....she's not a red head.

below are some sample images of brown haired kids looking red....

You do realize that the color space that is used for the photo (at least, the second one) is aRGB?!

Wilt may be onto something with the colorspace.

Proper use of a good white balance target (WhiBal card or Photovision target, not a traditional 18% gray card) should negate any magenta tint from the lights, but to rule that out you should try the same technique, on the same subjects, with natural light.

Not sure how brown the kid's hair is, either, especially with possible changes between color spaces used by browser, etc. To me both of those kids look light brown/dirty blonde. That being said, I have plain boring brown hair... and my oldest son has insisted I'm a redhead forever because my hair develops a really obvious auburn glow in the son. Experimenting on myself with self-portraits with my new off-camera lighting has made me look more of an auburn and less of a brown several times and usually most people find my other colors dead-on...

So could part of it be just lighting?

I like to push buttons on thingies that take pictures. Sometimes I like to push other buttons, too.
I only bite on the second Tuesday of every week, usually only mean people - they kinda taste like chicken...
