anyone using old manual lens?

anyone here using old classic manual lens from other brands on their 30D or 5D? cuz i often see some old camera gears and lens at garage sale that seems to be pretty decent, but not sure if getting an adapter would work?

Yep. Old pentax and olympus lenses are particularly popular depending on the mount.

Almost all the time! My favourite would be the 50mm Tak. Works great with an EMF adaptor.

with the EMF adapter, will you still get AF or just MF only?

also, is there a sticky for all the alternative lens we can use on our canon bodies?

Not any more, just sold my last one. But I used OM and M42 mount lenses with simple non-AF confirm adapters pretty successfully. They are good value for still & portraits. My OM Zuiko was very sharp.

No, it was 50 mm macro. I sold it a couple weeks ago. Never used it for macro and 85 is a better portrait lens (d'uh ).

The Zuiko was a fun lens to use, though. Focusing via Live View, the sharpness was exceptional, the bokeh was OK, colors were nice and crisp. Precise MF focusing was easy since the lens was built for it and allowed very fine focus adjustments. By comparison to Nifty 50, which I also used to have, the sharpness was about the same, the bokeh was more pleasant although not on par with dedicated portrait lenses (Macro's don't typically have exceptional bokeh), the DOF was obviously wider since it only had 3.5 max aperture, the colors were generally better, the contrast was better if I managed to nail the exposure (takes a bit of practice with a manual lens and non-chipped adapter).

thanks for the update. now if only if i can find a stinky somewhere that shows all the lens that could be used on canon body...
