Thanks

Yeah, it will be fully functional on the 60D. It is very similar to the 430EX except it has no manual control and it only tilts up, not side to side.

I don't think so. It would be useful as an on camera bounce flash only.

380EX???

If you mean the 320EX yes to a limited degree over any other flash.

It has a dedicated LED constant light source ability that none of the past EX, EXII models of any number. This was included to provide for very close illumination of a small area to give you *close* area lighting for video work.
However in real life practice...compared to the numerous multiple LED light panel offerings in the marketplace...it's rather wimpy.
Many of the other choices are brightness adjustment capable and some like the Manfrotto models also have the built in ability to flash momentarily at 4x when you press the shutter button while filming to pop a subject for a still shot during the video stream.

The 320 will act as a slave but not a master and you can tilt as well as turn the head. But the head is smaller so many light mods will not fit well except for the dedicated Stofen Omnibounce.

Lotsa stuff, running outta room and a wife...I keep looking at her and wondering???

I think he meant 380EX. It's been out of production for a while, but it does exist:

I had a 380 EX left over from my Elan II setup, I use it with my 7D and it works very well

If it's free, go for it. If you're thinking about buying it, I'd put the money towards a better flash. I wouldn't recommend the 420ex, and the 380ex has even less features. If you're looking at buying, I'd look for 430, 550, or 580ex's (mark II models will be more expensive, but better).

Thanks again.

I had the flash left over from the film days with an A2e. I wanted to use it for wireless. I went out and got the 430EX II.

Thanks , I am reading the speedliters manual by SLY . It does not mention the 380 at all .
Not really that important since I also have the 580 II , but I might learn enough to try 2 or 3 flashes .

I've got a 380EX and it works fine on all my EOS bodies. For the record, I've also got a 420EX which is also still a perfectly usable flash, and it does include the wireless functionality the 380EX lacks. While I generally prefer my 430EXii to either of these, they both serve their purpose well and represent excellent values used.

The 380 can be used off-camera automatically with a long E-TTL cord and can do HSS if that's useful to you.

If fired wirelessly with a dumb trigger, you'll get a full power dump with a 4 to 5 second recycle time assuming fresh NiMH's. And if triggered by radio, the light on the subject (or background) can be adjusted with distance, modifiers, gels, or a combination.

Thanks . I have the 380 , 580 II [I thought it was plug and play when I got it] , I was not happy with the results and just used the pop up for fill or raised the ISO .
I also have couple of off brand flashes [these are mainly loaners - nephews / nieces - it is a hobby for me .]
I have the regular and the OC -E3 [I also have the off brand 3 meter cord that has a double socket on both ends - YONGNUO FC-681 TTL] , guess I will start watching ebay for a 270 or maybe the st-e2 .
Not really sure if the YONGNUO FC-681 TTL is TTL-E or if i need / would use .
I had total knee replacements on left [3- 20--12] and the right on 6-19-12 . The pain limited me / my moving around - the pain pills - I did not trust not falling down or banging camera . Bored senseless , got a couple of flash books - started reading . Between me and pills - it is taking some time but starting to understand a little more
