Has any one else had a cover like this on the distance scale window on a brand new lens? I know that mine haven't.

Seems like they have a plastic sticker on there, you can rip that off. Like they have on mobilephone glass when new.

Just plastic you pull off. It's just to protect against scratching during shipping.

One of my pet peeves is people that leave these things on everything and never take them off.

A little confusing. What exactly do you mean by "a cover like this"? It looks pretty normal to me unless you mean the protective plastic tape covering the window? As per the article, these are prototype versions so perhaps that's the reason for the protective covering. Or perhaps its the start of a new trend,

Well, this piece of plastic tape is to protect the appearance of the distance scale,
some people do like those tape on it forever,
but mainly purpose is to prevent scratches or other damages

I have bought at least four new Canon lenses over the years, and none of them ever had a protective cover over the distance window.

The one in that picture is a prototype of a new lens at some Canon event.

Maybe this is why they price them so much higher now:D;)

I know that. Did you happen to notice that I was the ONLY one to answer the OP's original question? ;)

Original question and the purpose of this thread...

Has any one else had a cover like this on the distance scale window on a brand new lens? I know that mine haven't
