Yes, it sucks to be around me at the moment...

I had it mounted to the hood of my car and took it out for a test run. About a mile from home the suction cup decided to let loose and the thing fell off the car while I was driving. I'm trying to find out if they'll warranty this for me or not. Probably not...

Here's the last picture it took before falling off the car at 40MPH.

Here is the picture I took after I got it back together.

Sorry about your luck. What's the case look like? I race motorcycles (road not dirt) and have had one of these fall off before. I was using the sticky mounts. Unfortunately I never found mine as it was mounted behind me and I have no idea where it fell off but I often wondered if the case would have withstood the impact/tumbling.

No I always employ some kind of tether (usually zip ties) in case this happens again.

The clip that holds the back closed broke off and the outside is a little scuffed up. Other than the clip missing the casing itself looks fine. I tried locating the clip but couldn't. I would have tried to glue it back on if they didn't warranty the thing for me.

I have a feeling they wont warranty it for me. If I can buy just the camera and the housing to replace it for less than $250 I might just do that. And yes, if I ever attach it to anything that moves it will get tethered... Lesson learned!

It might be just the case that's broken not the camera. Take the camera off the case and take a picture without the case.

That second image was taken with the camera out of the case. The lens on the camera has a large gouge in it. The outer case looks better than the camera itself with the exception of the broken clip that I couldn't find...

Here's a shot I sent to GoPro.

When I stopped the car to get it the camera back was off, the battery was laying in the road and the SD card had popped out. It was camera carnage on the street.

I believe so.

That was damn bad luck and not the first time I've heard of them parting company with moving vehicles.

The moral of the story - always use a safety tether.

The replacement lenses that GoPro sells are for the case, not the camera itself.

Another great site is EyeOfMine. Hundreds of custom GoPro products. I have bought quite a few products from them.

Sweet! I'll take a look at that in a bit... It's raining now and satellite internet is not the greatest in the rain... :(

did you put water on the surface inbetween the car and the suction cup or just mount it directly on via suction?

I put water on the suction cup. I always do that with those. My GPS mount is stuck to my window and has been for months. :)

I was surprised by the cheapness of the GoPro suction mount. It is nothing like the Manfrotto one where you have a pump to pump out the air.......But then it is cheap in comparison.

I have the silicone over case for mine. While "after the horse has bolted" it would have kept the camera in the case so you would only be looking at buying a new casing now.

It's a bit of a fight to get it on and off but, considering the advantages, it has to be worth it. I only got it to make the camera look less conspicuous but, in retrospect, will now use it at any time the camera might be at risk (so every time you use it then).
