  • Great for candid shots
  • Works with any SLR lens: Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus, etc.
  • Swivels 360 degrees to let you take 90° candid shots in any direction
  • Fits most thread sizes. Including 37mm, 49mm, 52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, 67mm, 72mm, and 77mm.
  • Works with zoom lenses (at least 50mm) Does *not* work with fish-eye or wide-angle lenses
  • Made in Japan

Has anyone on here tried this thing?

Is it just a gimmick or actually useful? The spy lens looks good on paper, but how much does it degrade IQ?

I think it is great. No one would ever notice that HUGE GAPPING HOLE in the side of your lens:rolleyes:

That's an old, old gimmick. They were selling those in the little ads in the back pages of photography magazines more than 40 years ago.

The fact is, if you're taking pictures anywhere around camera-wary subjects, they're going to notice that you have a camera on your face whether or not you're actually pointing at them.

I've always believed it's better to be honest about your intentions and hang around your potential subjects long enough for them to begin ignoring you than to try to "steal" or "snipe" images surreptitiously. Far less chance of running into trouble that way.

I dare say that this would allow you to take some "candid" photographs until you get spotted with, as a previous poster says, a gaping hole in the side of the lens. And getting spotted with a sneaky method of taking photos is surely going to be taken less lightly than just doing it in the open, maybe?

Super telephoto lenses would do a better job than this. That hole is to obvious. In order for that to be a success the lens should be made from a closed system using ND glass. Expensive and degrading quality but then it will be a true spy lens.

You dug up an oldie. I remember seeing ads for these in comic books back in the early 1970's...

That's silly. You just need a good long lens for candids. No need to be that sneaky.
