I also experience focusing issues and am pretty convinced that it needs calibration. Can I ask a silly question? How would I actually go about doing this? For example, where exactly in Canon's website should I begin the process?

There's a 'contact us' clickable link on most professional websites of that kind.

My 40D, no micro adjust, is mounted with the Sigma 30, and the 17-55 as much as any lens in my kit. I have never sent anything in for micro adjust, and the only time I miss focus is because of my user error.

I wish everyone could have the good luck I have had.

Gear list: S5IS, 40D, Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS, Canon 70-200 f4 L IS, Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM, Canon 50mm f1.8 mk1, Canon 85mm f1.8, Sigma 30mm f1.4 EX DC HSM, 430EXII, Kenko 1.4x TC, tripod

Are wide apertures useless without microadjust? Yes, this is why no fast lenses were made before 2007 - because it's impossible to take a decent photo at f1.4 without MA.

If you are in the US, go to this page and select your camera: http://www.usa.canon.com …ducts/cameras/slr_cameras (external link)

Next, select "Service and Support from the header at the top. Now look under "Service and Repair" and click on the link "Arrange a Repair". The rest is fill in the blank.

Good luck!

[GIFS ARE NOT RENDERED IN QUOTES]

In the good ole days, photogs didn't expect different from their gear. They had to rise to the challenge their gear and the circumstances presented them. With improvements in technology expectations are different. Requiring input from the photog is more and more regarded as backward and primitive in photographic gear!

This current attitude is related to the expectation that tech improvements are unbounded. In the good ole days photogs knew the laws and therefore the limits of physics/optics/materials/chemicals. Nowadays few photogs know these limits, and the additional laws and limits of electronics, and so have unrealistic expectations of technology and the future of technology. That way deep pits await!
