Yes, I'm actually not a fan of the Benro design but I did buy a Manfrotto monopod a few years ago. I used it on one trip only then sold it after a couple of years. Monopods have specific uses as far as I can tell, like sports and news reporting where you need support but there's no room for a tripod because there are so many other photogs clustered around you.
For what I do a tripod is by far the best solution, I do like my Benro traveler but I'm going on a trip next month and taking the Gitzo 3-series systematic as an experiment. It's 1 lb. heavier than the Benro so it might work.
