I have the opportunity to trade my t2i directly for a 50d (both canon gripped). I like the 50d handling a lot and have fast lenses where ma would help a lot. I dont shoot video. In terms of pure stills shooting which would you choose?

I personally would make the trade in a second if the 50d is in good shape.
There are MANY upgrades in the 50d over the t2i.

second wheel (for aperture)
much better AF system
some weather sealing
better viewfinder
custom modes on dial
microfocus adjust
i think the sensor is just as good(i have a 60d with the same sensor as the t2i and I have a t1i with the same sensor as a 50d)
6.3 frames per second vs 3.7

Im sure there are more that I am missing.

I believe the t2i is better than the 50d at handling noise when using high ISO.

i was faced with the same dilemma a week ago, i gave up my 550D for the 50D, i have no regrets... :D although no video, not the best in ISO.. FPS, weathersealing, Microadjustment is a big +! IMO.. :D

No way would I give up ISO capability or even the video for that.

How much better are the iso characteristics really though? Just curious... I use 1600 on occasion and 3200 in dire circumstances on the t2i. My other body is a 1diii btw this is a discussion for my backup cam

I would do the trade if you don't shoot video and if the 50D is in excellent shape.

I would trade my t2i in a second for 50D. My friend has a 50d but he is only using it for family pictures and occasions maybe I can talk him out plus a few bucks. Umm

I love the 6.3 fsp vs 3.7 that is why maybe in a few months I will move to 7D.

I would choose the T2i (550D) because of the newer sensor (ISO, image quality) and HD video but if like the 50D and it's not real old (run that shutter count program!) go for it

The ISO capabilities is not bad on the 50D. I shoot weddings with a 50D without problems. I have no problems what so ever shooting at ISO 1600 or even 3200 if needed. As long as you expose right it´s okey.
I have also tried the 60D at a wedding and I really didn´t see much difference in the ISO when shooting at 1600 and 3200.

Happy new owner of a 50D+BG-E2 for $425 (And a PCB Vagabond). Belonged to a professional studio photographer who takes very good care of his equipment. Looks like new despite its 60k clicks. Part of the deal was I was going to sell my T2i gripped to my buddy who I shoot events with... for the price of $425. I'd say I got a good deal out of this.
