Lot of 5DIII/X rumor threads on this forum. How about we add another but in a different flavor.

If the 5D3/X does in fact have the rumored 22MP full frame sensor, 61 point AF, 6.9 fps, I can very well see this thing KILLING used sales of the 1D4. Its all speculation of course, but I assume the spec'd 5D above will sell for $3,500 - 4,000. If that's true, used 1D4's could drop in value.

Thoughts and ideas? I wouldn't mind picking up a clean 1D4 in the $3,500 price range.

It all depends on the ISO before it can kill off sales on the 1D MKIV thus possible reductions in price.

Tbh, I don't expect prices to reduce much if at all

If those price estimates are true d800 will sell like crazy

That's what I think as well. If my pricing and the rumor specs are close, the decision will come down to full frame + insane high ISO files vs 1.3x crop factor and fps.

From what I've seen in Canon's samples of the 1Dx, the high ISO files are fairly clean. If the next 5D follows this performance, I think people will definitely snag up a 5D in a compact body instead of a 1D4.

The D800 is a different camera and targeted at a different style of photography than the 5DIII/X (and 1D4) specs. Based on the high ISO files from the D800 I've seen so far, I haven't been too impressed. Nikon ditched their budget FF/low MP action camera in place for a slower, noisier, high MP body. There's a lot of D700 users and desires who need something to fix their itch.

6.9 fps is unlikely. A single process can only process about 7 fps at 18MP (half of 1DX's). So you need duel processor, which is unlikely for 5D series.

I think what happens will depend on how well it performs, I look at specs but I look at real world use much closer.

I agree with 400dabuser...ISO performance in low light will play a big factor...

I think weather sealing will also be a (more minor) factor. Some people buy the 1D series for the build.

my 1d is a completely different camera than my 5d. it's vette vs ferrari....similar performance but as far as overall package goes, vastly different. a new vette won't change the price of a used ferrari.

While I agree with you, I feel Canon will be making huge strides to close the gap between the two lines.

I currently have 5Dii and 1D4 and was going to sell the 1D4 for the 1Dx. But after careful consideration, I will sell the 5Dii and purchase the 5Diii and keep the 1D4. I think the improvements 5Diii has over 5Dii is much more substantial than improvements 1Dx has over 1D4..... Also, I always wanted a smaller full frame body with pro auto focus.
