First time at Basketball... 3-4 year olds!

If it wasn't for this website I wouldn't of done such a good job my first time out. Used my 85 1.8 and had great shots right out of the hole. I love this site. Set my aperture to F2 and set my shutter to 1/400 for the kids I found this to be just fine and it took ISO 6400 to get good exposure. I remember when I first got into this hobby that I was deadly sickening to go up to 1600 and now I don't hesitate at all to take it to the max and even 12800. Just shoot to the right of the histogram and did some mild NR in LR3. This is a slight crop maybe 20% was cut out. Sure was fun watching my cousins kid that is 4 years old playing basketball, was so funny watching them!

Cute photo. I went to a children's basketball game last weekend. Canon 50D with Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Settings: ISO 1600 f/1.8 1/400 and PP in LR3

Much like yours except the ISO. There was enough light coming through the windows to lower the ISO to 1600. The light through the windows caused a problem with reflections on the floor and some really "strange" colors.

I use a battery grip which helps considerably shooting in portrait orientation. That eliminates much of the side distractions. Try cropping your photo portrait with only the two boys remaining. There might not be enough room in this photo but I think you will see the difference.

Photographing children in sports is a challenge but a lot of fun. My photos are for friends and not for sale. They really appreciate having something suitable for framing which is impossible with their P and S cameras.

Personal opinion but I feel like that turns a cute photo into a great photo. Don't you love the facial expressions on children?
