Blower to remove dust, then use a lens pen brush followed by the lens pen in circular motions. If I have any stubborn stains before using the lens pen tip I will lightly breath on the lens to moisten it sightly.

The first chemical mixture is 78% dinitrogen and 22% dioxygen (with a smattering of other stuff) applied with one of these - LINK (external link). That will get rid of the loose stuff and is often all that's needed.

If something needs a wet clean then I use a mix of isopropyl alcohol (£5 for half a litre from Amazon) and distilled water. That's roughly what all of the expensive lens-cleaning solutions have as their ingredients (maybe with a bit of ammonia or soap as well).

I use a blower, then get the lenspen out. Amazing product. I use the brush first to carefully brush off anything the blower didn't remove, then use the lenspen tip with small circular motions. It is seriously amazing. One of my lenses was covered in sea salt and another filter was covered in salt, finger prints and dust - now they both look BRAND NEW! And the lens pen is $10. As you can tell I was amazed!!!

Giottos Large Rocket Air Blower
Photographic Solutions Pec-Pad Photo Wipes
Lenspen DSLR Pro Cleaning Kit
ROR Residual Oil Remover

I think of trying something else than Pec-Pad btw, after using it leaves a lot of lint on the lens.

Only because I still have it around from film days, a good old fashioned bottle of Kodak Lens Cleaner coupled with the old Kodak lens cleaning paper.

I just want to be sure - were you amazed by this amazing product? ;-)a

Blower, then brush, then usually lens cleaner and lens tissue. I have a lenspen, it has rave reviews, etc., but when I was little my father taught me how to wash vehicles (and even let me wash his Harley) and one of the rules was that you never used sponge, etc., on anything but a wet surface because it can put small scratches into the paint with the dirt that is on the vehicle (the water loosened dirt and also acted as a mild lubricant between the dirt and the paint job). With the special coatings used, etc., I worry that a dry system will cause similar fine scratches and/or reduce/remove the coating in places over time.

Rocket Blower with StaticMaster brush

For wet I use PecPads or microfiber cloths coupled with Eclipse, ROR, or some other cleaning fluid.

Lenspens are in all my camera bags in case of emergencies (i.e., I use the other stuff and forget to put them back into the bag).

I use the following (in this order, most of the time your not getting to stage 3):

1. Rocket Blower.
2. Good quality micro-fibre cloth (Mine are Matin magic cloth's but basically the softer more fibourus kind, I've had some that are a bit shinier and not as soft and they are not as good).
3. Pec*pad & 'Lens Clean', very careful to keep rotating and using a different part of the pec*pad so that any particles that are picked up arn't being rub against the suface of the lens. Finished with a dry part of the pec*pad and then a quick run over with the micro-fibre cloth once dry.

Pec*pads & lens clean work well for cleaning just about everything from LCD screens to dirt that gets embedded into your grips. I must confess I just buy packs of 100 pec*pads at a time now they are so useful.
