What are you working with presently? If it is just for in the field and you have something Mac-able at home, and....money is no issue Mac air. However the Mac book Pro is a bit more machine.
Bottom line if it is an issue of size and portability go with the Air. Take a trip to the Apple store to at least touch and feel the difference between the two.

...just be warned, it can be overwhelming:p

I had a Macbook Air for about 3 months and the power wasn't the reason I took it back. The 13" screen is just too small for editing and the resolution isn't as good as say the high res screen that's available on the Macbook Pro models. I went back, got a 15" Macbook Pro, laughed when they asked if I wanted a RAM upgrade to 8GB for $400, bought RAM online and installed it myself for $50. This baby hums along and never skips a beat. I frequently have Itunes, Chrome, Spotify, Lightroom 3 and Aperture open simultaneously and it's like it laughs at me. No hiccups whatsoever.

The Air has the same display as the 15" Pro unless you upgrade the display (+$100-150). The 17" uses the better display. As others said, you need to look at the screen and be comfortable with it, but mine runs fast even with the standard 4GB RAM.

Yes, it does, but I upgraded to the 1680x1050 anti-glare screen. Makes a lot of difference when editing photos, getting exposure and color right seems to be more on the mark for me personally. And no, I never really had any problem with the power of the Air, but it's always nice to have a little more processor. It will get the job done though.

Somebody has said that the AIR is quicker when working track side because of the SSD.Has anybody noticed this.

Although any read/write would be faster, when working on editing the MacBook Pro would be quicker. My McBook Pro has the 2.2ghz quad i7 processor, as compared to the MacBook Air maxing at 1.7 ghz dual i7. So long as you have enough RAM, you should only hit the HD when saving. Browsing images should be faster on the AIR...but once a gallery is loaded in RAM, the Pro should be faster.

It will boot faster, and read, write and transfer files much more quickly....but for processes that engage the GPU and CPU (ie many of photoshop's functions), it will be slower. You can also put an SSD in the Macbook Pro if you need the speed. The SSD's that Apple uses are much slower than the other offerings in the market.
