I hope I'm not breaking any rules/laws by posting this but I assumed that most everyone had seen this shot by now since it was all over the news. I'm just wondering after seeing all the fantastic photo work that I have seen here, how would this shot be critiqued. I find it impossible to believe that it was recently sold for $4.3 M.

I've seen this too. I was like.. uhmmm.......... Reallyyy? I have no clue what makes it worth that much. I don't really have any critiquing either. I just wanted to say that. :)

One of the comments that I read said it brought such a high price was because it was his last work. OK...and...

To me it is a very flat and lifeless shot with no point of interest. I imagine it was taken with a film camera so I hope whoever bought it at the auction got the negative as well.

I agree, not much to look at here. But hey, more power to him.

But I believe you are breaking forum rules by posting someone else's work. I think a link to the image would be appropriate.

Yeah, I figured I might be. I was just curious since this is the critique area if I was missing something really really big. Sorry for the breach of forum decorum.

I don't there is any "power to him" since he is no longer with us. I guess his estate made some gains from the auction.

I wouldn't have paid a single penny over $3.5 M for that...it is obviously way-overpriced. But it is a genius capture though; placing the horizon smack-dab in the middle of the frame screams "uber-professional" doesn't it?

GopherM, remove the pic per the rules and just provide a simple link. :)

I saw the post and if I am correct this was made in Holland, and the first reaction of myself when I saw the price was....WY?

Wy would someone pay so much for this picture.
Some other guy told me because the lines are perfectly straight, and they are at the right position for this picture.

But I don't think that this picture is worth that much, Its flat, boring, and uninspiring.
But hey, I didn't pay $4.3 M. For it, so wy would I complain?

Well at least the generous person who bought the print was into charity work... ;)

I'm a firm believer that everyone here should print this out as large as you can and frame it. Put it over your bed. Every morning when you wake up and see it you can say "today's the day! Anything's possible!"
