okay here is the deal I currently have a 1d mark II and I know how great the 45pt auto focus is but I am currently looking at adding a mark III to my lineup and I was wondering is there a real difference between the 45pts of the mark II to the 19pts of mark III?

Also is there a difference in the high ISO performance between these 2 bodies? I shoot at 1600iso for hockey a lot and was hoping that the mark III will be a little bit cleaner at 1600.

I can't really speak very far for the MkII, as I've only tried its high ISO's with the preview and not on a computer screen, but I can tell you that the MkIII has beautiful files at 1600 from my test shots (I just recently got my MkIII). The grain is smooth, even, and is just nice to look at with only a little chroma noise reduction. If someone doesn't beat me to it I'll post some examples when I get a chance.

thank you... I know that the files I get from my Mark II at 1600 look good but I just prefer it to be just a little bit cleaner. how does that 19pt focus work for you?

I own both. You will notice less noise.

The AF overall is maybe a touch faster, just a hair more accurate, but takes time to get set up. At least it did for me.

I stopped using anything but center point with assist points a long time ago, so I can't speak to the outer or full set use.

And I think you'll find the MKIII controls easier to use.

Like I said, I can't speak for comparing them on noise, but I doubt you'll be disappointed with the MkIII if you're coming from a MkII. Not a night-and-day difference, but still better.

This is a comparison between the MkIII and the 1Ds-ii... seems like the MkIII has a slight edge at 1600 and 3200 over the 1Dsii. Also the 1Dsii should be better than the 1Dii.

Also, the 19 point system is awesome. I haven't used the MkII extensively but I highly doubt you'll be missing anything.
