So once again I will say I am new to photography and my husband just bought me a T2i a week ago. So what do I need? I have the T2i and the lenses are in my sig. I am getting the nifty fifty this week and my grip will be here this week. Book wise I have a few that were recommened by some of you all.So besides a flash, and tripod is there anything else that is a "must have" or am I good for now?

Yes. You need to stop acquiring gear and posting on here and START SHOOTING!!!!

In the old days people shot 'till their fingers were raw with a single body and lens. You don't need a grip, you have some great lenses (the Thrifty Trifecta, well done!), yes a tripod, a flash and some filters (circular polarizer, neutral density) are a great idea...I don't think any of your purchases have been unwise (though the grip may be unnecessary), but just go out and shoot...only then will you truly know what you NEED...

Thank you. I have not been able to shoot much but I have alittle. Sadly the days it was not raining here I was soooo busy and wasnt able to get out but I am going to this week. Thank you for the info and yes I did get filters also I forgot to mention that. I did get the grip because I like the idea of more battery and I like the extra bulk (for lack of a better word) so that was just my choice. I just want to get what I need for now and then be done for a at least a short time lol. I am not trying to be a porfessional by any means not even close just a hobby but it would be nice to have what I need. I also like to do a lot of research so ask now and read a ton then buy so planning works for me =)

You should be good for now. What you "need" will depend very much on what you want to shoot, but you have enough there to get out and start shooting and learning how to use your gear. If you get too much to start off, you will keep swapping stuff around and it makes it harder to really learn each piece of kit.

Learn what you can do with what you have first, then when you start feeling limited by what you have, decide what best meets your needs to deal with that limitation. You may decide you want a longer lens, or a faster one, or macro, or better flash etc.

You need to buy according to what you need, not what people suggest based upon what they would want, to shoot their stuff.

Yeah... go shoot. And then go out and shoot some more. And then shoot some more after that.

Enjoy digital photography. The expensive part has already been paid for (gear). Time to get to the fun and cheaper part of it, which is to shoot, enjoy, and learn from your shots.

Like others have said, shot with what you have. A tripod and flash would be great adds as well.

That kit will work for you for a while and maybe forever unless you continue to frequent this board.

So as for a tripod is it true that carbon fiber is the best bet? Just looking for opnions. Also it makes complete sense what you all are saying about shooting and going from there before I buy anymore gear.

It's the lightest. It's also the most expensive...by a long shot.

Quite frankly, in your situation (ie: you don't have a style yet, you don't know if you'll be using a tripod all that much), I would buy a cheap tripod at first...

My current tripod, I picked up for $40. It's not perfect, but I've taken many great photos with it over the past 5 years that I've had it...I want a different tripod now because I want to get into more night photography, but really...with a light body/lens combination like what you have something cheap will get you started and then you can figure out if you need anything better (maybe you'll never use it and you'll be happy you didn't drop $500 on a carbon fibre one).

Funny, we have similar gear(I have the t3i and same lenses)
AND I asked a very similar question to this the other day!! (and got pretty much the same answers) Just a hobby here too.
I think you will love the fifty- I do. It is keeping me pretty busy.
For flash I got the 430 EX II.
I just bought a grip on Friday, my hands are kind of big, so it is nice having the extra space to hold on to.
The only other thing I can think of, that I just bought, was hoods for each lens.

I recommend a nice bag to carry it all in. Nothing would be worse to invest money into something and not protect it as best you can.
