Hi, I often see some kind of artifact in the shadow region of RAW images when viewed ACR. When I view the same file in DPP, this artifact does not show up. I would like to understand why this artifact is showing up and if there's a way to eliminate it in ACR? In the example below, the artifact can be seen in the left side of the neck. The first image is from ACR, while the second from DPP. Thanks for the inputs!

Can you point it out a bit better? I'm not seeing it. What does seem quite apparent is that the ACR photo has more contrast.

What camera profile are you using for ACR? You should be using the ones designed for you camera and not "Adobe Standard" or "ACR x.x". The ones specific to your camera are "Camera Standard", "Camera Neutral", etc.

Assuming this is ACR 6 (very different from Vs. 5 and earlier) it has a conversion engine that has been tuned to maximize detail extraction. Earlier ACR demosaicers and DPP are much smoother. But more detail can also mean more noise, which is particularly evident in the shadows. To get a smoother rendition reduce Detail in the sharpening or add a little Luminance NR.

Yup, looks like something's getting clipped off. There's probably a slider somewhere that's not where it should be (ya I know, not all that helpful, sorry :)).

I tried camera standard and other profiles but the artifact is still there.

Hi Elie, I tried both the detail slider but no real improvement

Can you post the RAW somewhere so others can take a look at it?

I think you need to find a regular file sharing service (not sure which though, I'm new around here :p. But I seem to recall some mentioned around these parts).

Try limiting your view to 100%. I don't see it here (CS 5.5 / ACR)

At 100%, I can see the unusual tone is the shadow areas in the raw image
