Rented a 135L F2.0 for a couple of games this weekend. My first time shooting basketball since this time last year. Amazing how much one forgets in a year's time (technique, mostly).
I can tell this is a great lens - much better than the 85 1.8 I've used in the past. It's too long on the 7D for shooting from beneath the basket, but it works great from the stands and from back in the corners a bit. I spent most of the first game getting my bearings with the lens, but I started to get things figured out by the middle of the second game.
I ended up at 2500 ISO, F2.2, and varied between 1/640 and 1/800 for ss. Had several "almost" shots that were lost due to my inability to accurately track/focus. Also lost some due to keeping my thumb on the focus button (AI Servo mode) too long. As the player would go up to shoot, I'd keep focusing and end up locking onto something in the background...
My hat is off to those of you who do this type of work well.
