Anyone have any idea what is going on? Looks like all the bodies are back up to MSRP at the reputable dealers. I was thinking the 5D and 7D would stay down since they're both obviously near the end of their life cycle.

What going on is what we thought are wrong. Not sure you mean "5D II" or "5D", but IMO the 5D II and 7D are not "near the end of their life cycle" yet.

Product life cycle and they're both overdue.

Considering the 5D MKII is over 3 years old now, I'd say it's past due.

LOL

or...the marketing types are using an old tactic of "price equals value"...you know like some people love to quote that old fallacy of you get what you pay for?

Another attempt to dump inventory before a change arrives.

I got mine January 5 - originally they said the low prices were ending by then so I ordered Jan 3. Then they were extended and I worried that hubby would think that I manipulated him to get them purchased so fast. I feel sorry for the people who couldn't get them when they were cheaper. :(

I got my 5D2 from Canon Refurb, when it was 15% off.

So I got it for $1,699. Very happy about that.

Yeah, got my body and a free printer too.

I didn't figure that the prices would last. Pulled the trigger in December when some of the better deals were going on.

Got my 7D off here for $1100 so I'm good. If I didn't would have kept the 40D.

I just recently got a T3i for my daughter. I had it sitting in my cart at Newegg at a pretty good price (was waiting to pull the trigger because we were going to be gone for a few days and didn't want it sitting on the porch) When I went back to place the order it had gone back up to list.

Luckily someone here had posted a deal at Adorama and I was able to jump on it and get it cheaper than the origional price. Right after that every site seemed to be back at MSRP.

I wonder if it's just the cycle of rebates/discounts expiring or maybe because the Yen had climbed so much against the dollar and now they can't absorb it anymore.

Probably the same reason why some 1D II's cost $6000 (http://www.amazon.com …tal-Camera/dp/B0001G112O/ (external link)) :)

The recent 'deals' must have drained the stock a bit, so they are now going easy.. that would be my guess.

Actually my guess is the reason they all went up is tax returns. Lots of people will use a tax return for a big purchase, what better time to jack the price back up?
