Hi all,

Daniel's (that's him in the photo) Granda gave me his old studio light setup. It's been sat in his garage since he retired ages ago. Anyway I have 4 Bowens prolites at my disposal and this was taken with 1 through a soft box and an off camera speed light on low power to trigger.

No real clue what I'm doing but Daniel couldn't even wait to get dressed and brush his hair!! At least I have a willing model for more practice. I just set the camera on F11 and fiddled with light power until it wasn't blown out. tips would be good, this is a first try.

Many Thanks for the comments, agreed on the preparation side of things - but it was only an experiment :-)

I think a light meter will be the next investment

Aidan

Its a great shot. But I notice a progressive light darkening at the top of the face. Did you do this in post, it doesnt look like lighting as it has that murky look that you get from vignette in post processing.

Hi Gonzo,

Thanks for the answer. No vignette added. I'm not sure I understand what you mean with the murky light. soft box was 45 degrees to camera left at about 2"6. But no reflector on other side, so perhaps it's light fall off? I also cloned out some "stuff" top right but I'm sure that had no effect

Great picture!
I agree about fixing the background and all. The white pillow is distracting.
But as for the rest of the picture; its really good.
