Hello everyone just joined this forum. I thought I would introduce myself.

I recently brought a Canon EOS 60d with the lens that came with it 35-135, a speedlite, some uv lens cover that the gut at the shop said it would be good to have and a tripod.

I having starting taking any photos yet. Still trying to learn how to use it. I've never done any photography before. Could anyone point us in the right direction.

Josh

Hi Josh -- welcome to POTN! I'll never forget when I got my first camera...the excitement it unreal! I hope you continue to discover the many joys of photography.

Besides taking lots and lots of pictures, the best thing you can do right now is to learn about ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed. These three things are related to each other and are the foundation you need to become "creative" in photography. I cannot stress enough the importance of learning the fundamentals of what these three things do.

There's a great book that's recommended often here, and for good reason. It's called "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson and it can be found at Amazon by clicking here (external link). It is a fantastic book and is a great place to start learning.

Aside from that, be sure to read the manual that came with your camera. I know that seem obvious, but so many people overlook this fact and there is a lot to learn.

Again, congratulations! And be sure to hang out on POTN...you'll learn a lot and also teach us a thing or two as well!

Bryan

Might want to see if any of your friends are photographers . . . picking up on their tips and mentoring can accelerate your learning curve dramatically . . .
