Didn't see a dedicated thread for this so thought I'd make a new thread. Here's my entry.

Edit: Sorry, wrong place for this.

How do you guys focus fast enough to get crisp shots? I was trying to take pictures of an active puppy the other day using AF servo, but it couldn't keep up. Maybe close up the aperture a bit so I get some lee-way?

It was getting dark so I was around F/3.2-3.5 at 50MM..

Nice shots in here by the way!

Happen to run across this thread and this shot came to mind. Almost 3 years ago to the day. Both dog and girl seem much older today!

Good question. Since this is pet talk, how are people focusing? Tips? Techniques?

This was after a bath in my house at night with very poor lighting. It would have been a very cool shot if I nailed the focus.

Heres a shots from the dog park of a cute pup running right at me to say hi.

I use single focus point, usually the center point. I use a slower tracking servo sensitivity so that if I lose a running dog I dont immediately focus on the background.

The hard thing is working with a shallow depth of field and still getting focus on the head and eyes. Sometimes I like stopping down to get more of the dog in focus.
