Canon U.S.A. Displays EOS, HD Cameras, HD Camcorders, EF Lenses, Printers, Projectors And The DreamLabo 5000 P-O-D System At WPPI 2012

LAS VEGAS, February 20, 2012 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is exhibiting a broad range of professional photography, video, projector, and printer products designed to serve the unique needs of wedding and portrait photographers at the WPPI 2012 Trade Show. From exceptional, reliable photographic and HD image capture to ultra-high-quality printing and projection, Canon’s WPPI 2012 products comprise a complete imaging system that champions picture quality and provides creative talents with the tools to grow their business. In addition to exclusive expert stage presentations, special attractions in the MGM Conference Center will include a demonstration of the new Canon DreamLabo 5000 inkjet printer, which marks the Company’s entry into the production photo-printing market, targeting high-growth market opportunities for digital photo printers.

Canon products showcased at WPPI 2012 include:

EOS Digital SLR Cameras, EF Lenses, and Accessories

WPPI 2012 will be the first U.S. trade show where visitors will be able to see Canon’s latest EF-series interchangeable lenses: pre-production samples of the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM, and EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM lenses will be shown under glass.

Famous for innovative features and unrivaled image-capture capabilities, the Canon EOS line of digital SLR cameras will include select models for WPPI 2012 visitors to handle and examine. Also on display will be a diverse selection of Canon EF lenses, precision designed and manufactured for use with Canon EOS digital SLR cameras for virtually any photographic application. A world leader in optical technology, Canon’s EF-series provides the world’s most comprehensive selection of lenses including telephoto, macro, fisheye, tilt/shift models as well as many others. Among the newest Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras on hand at WPPI 2012 is the EOS-1D X Digital SLR, designed to bring professional photography to its next level of success and achievement. Canon-engineered from the inside out, the EOS-1D X DSLR camera features a 61-Point High Density Reticular Autofocus (AF) System (the first of its kind for a DSLR), fast shooting up to 12 frames per second (fps), a high-performance 18-megapixel Full-Frame CMOS Image Sensor, Full HD Video Recording, and many other advancements.

Also on display at WPPI 2012 is the Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera, favored not only by leading wedding and portrait photographers, but also by wedding filmmakers and Hollywood movie studios. This model offers an exceptional 21.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, a Canon DIGIC 4 Image Processor, Live View shooting, and 1080p Full HD Video Recording.

Visitors to Canon’s WPPI 2012 exhibit can also examine the EOS 7D Digital SLR camera, which features an 18.0 Megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor and Dual DIGIC 4 Image Processors for the capture of tremendous images at up to ISO 12800 and speeds of up to eight fps. The EOS 7D has an all-cross-type 19-point AF system with improved AI Servo II AF subject tracking and user-selectable AF area selection modes for sharp focus, no matter the situation. As with the EOS 5D Mark II and EOS-1D X, the EOS 7D also features 1080p Full HD Video Recording.

Adding functionality to Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras and EF lenses are Canon’s EOS System accessories. Items on display will include Canon Speedlites, advanced, versatile portable electronic flash units fully integrated with the exposure and autofocus systems of Canon EOS cameras. Canon Wireless File Transmitter (WFT) units offer additional functionality for EOS Digital SLR cameras by providing a means of relaying high-quality digital images from remote or hazardous locations, and the wireless linking and syncing of cameras. Various models provide such features as remote Live View, connectivity to WiFi, USB, Bluetooth, and GPS devices, and more.

Canon Printer Products

High-quality printing is an essential capability for wedding and portrait professionals. Canon will demonstrate a range of its leading printer products at WPPI 2012, showing visitors to Canon’s exhibit how to get the best from their digital content for greater creative potential. On display will be the recently announced Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Professional Inkjet Printer. The new printer is the first and only A3+ printer that utilizes five distinct monochrome inks in a 12-ink system designed to yield the absolute truest prints possible. From capture to output, users can look forward to maintaining every incredible nuance and color with the utmost accuracy and precision.

Continuing the theme of unrivaled picture printing, Canon’s imagePROGRAF iPF6300, a 24-inch Large Format printer, will also be on display, demonstrating how professional designers and photographers can achieve extraordinary quality in their printed materials.

A New Print on Demand System

On display in the MGM Conference Center during the WPPI 2012 Trade Show is the Canon DreamLabo 5000 inkjet printer. This product marks Canon’s entry into the production photo printing market, targeting high-growth market opportunities for digital photo printers. Canon’s FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) print-head technology allows for both high image quality and productivity to support a variety of value-added output capabilities. These include photo merchandise and high-end POD (Print on Demand) items, such as wedding albums and calendars. The system realizes accurate color representation and provides an alternative to traditional silver halide processing technology.

Cinema EOS System

Canon will display and demonstrate the EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera at WPPI 2012. Featuring a Super 35mm CMOS Sensor and full compatibility with the complete line-up of Canon EF, EF-S and Cinema EF lenses, the EOS C300 provides unprecedented Full HD image quality and versatility for professional videographers.

Canon Professional HD Camcorders

For wedding and event videographers preferring to shoot their footage with a camcorder, Canon will also exhibit its XF and XA Series of professional tapeless HD camcorders. All feature Genuine Canon HD zoom lenses, advanced Canon 1920 x 1080 Canon CMOS image sensors, professional XLR microphone inputs, and many other sophisticated professional features, including convenient flash-media recording for efficient editing workflow. The Canon XF Series HD Camcorders includes the models XF305, XF300, XF105 and XF100. Each includes three Canon developed and designed native 1920 x 1080 CMOS image sensors, and Canon’s proprietary MPEG-2 4:2:2 50Mbps XF Codec to achieve exceptional HD image quality and color detail, as well as full compatibility with all leading non-linear editing (NLE) systems.

Canon REALiS LCOS Projectors

Event videographers and wedding and portrait photographers seeking a video projection solution that delivers seamless, detailed high-resolution, high-brightness color-accurate still- or motion-image display have many choices among Canon’s REALiS line of multimedia LCOS projectors. Utilizing Genuine Canon projection lenses and next-generation LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) projection-display technology enhanced by Canon’s proprietary AISYS (Aspectual Illumination System) optical engine, REALiS projectors include full-featured portable and installation models in a variety of resolutions and brightness ratings. All provide Auto Setup, which identifies the input signal and corrects for focus, screen color and keystone distortion. Other convenient features include multiple video and computer interfaces and easy input of images from Canon EOS digital SLR cameras and Canon HD camcorders.

For more information on all of Canon’s products, please visit booths #401 and #1465 in the MGM Grand Conference Center during the WPPI 2012 Trade Show from February 20-22, in Las Vegas, or go to: www.usa.canon.com (external link).

What the heck? Nothing new? They're going to just sit on a few lens upgrades and that's it. :(

I take that back, they are really pushing, etc., the C300 and its new lenses, too. Maybe for now they're focusing completely on the high-end pro market and the lower end markets will update closer to fall "just in time" for the holiday buying? I

Perhaps. Or they're just really pushing the video market. Though it does seem like they've been neglecting their prosumer market and below for a bit now.

Maybe even though they promote their 5D MkII as "beloved by wedding photographers" etc., they also suffer from a knee-jerk reaction that puts them as more of a consumer than professional model?

Or maybe they are just as nervous about the economy and figure in another year only the very richest will be able to afford their cameras and there's no reason to market to anything but the lowest and the very highest and the prosumer models are going to be the hardest hit. :(

I wouldn't say that.

The focus seems entirely on action photography and video (including the lenses being showcased), not the rest of the pro market. There's no real 1Ds3 replacement either, and that's been out since 2007!

It seems part of a longer-term trend of Canon moving away from professional still photography, concentrating on high-speed action and video - i.e. the large, corporate sports pages and Hollywood, rather than small business/sole trader pros (who often shoot weddings, general events, landscapes, portraiture, freelance photojournalism).

You might be right - I read another article (forget which website it was now) where a photojournalist said that the move is to video and still photography for news, etc., is dead. If Canon agrees with that shift, they might be focusing on the changing interest that is predicted and assuming that those of us who aren't aware of the fact will be enlightened at one point or another and follow suit to the other cameras.

I find it slightly ironic, because much of the pro work was done on the 5DMk II... sooner or later they should be upgrading that camera, at least? :(

On the 1DS3 - maybe they're just looking at the 1Dx to be the upgrade for them all?

For news and sport, maybe.

Definitely not for weddings, landscapes, events and functions, publications like National Geographic, etc.

There is still a need for high-end, professional still cameras for everything other than news.

The 1Dx has almost nothing in common with the 1Ds3. The 1Ds3 was designed for ultimate IQ and high resolution. The 1Dx is low resolution (for the release date, anyway) and seems optimised for speed; for a typical 1Ds3 user, there would be essentially no improvement for large prints, etc.

Okay - you are right -the resolution on the 1Dx was disappointing to many. It's not a small wonder that some have abandoned ship for the D800. I wonder if Canon realizes they could lose a serious amount of market share to Nikon this year if they don't step up on some of these other still camera models?

I keep hearing things like this, but can you point us to any proof other than forum post in which someone claims they are switching? Especially since the 1DX isn't even on the market yet. I hear these kind of comments every single time a new camera body is announced, but I'd like to see some proof....because I don't think there's any. It's just photographers BS'ing with each other.

Maybe. If that's the case, them coming out with a "new" 55-250 doesn't make sense.

In any event, my money's on video as others have said. The C300 and the new 24 and 28mm lenses being released maybe means Canon is happy with where they are in the still market at the moment.

All the "new" 55-250 did was save canon production costs e.g. replacing the little white nub for mounting orientation with white paint. No benefit to the end consumer.

According to the Sell section, aboss3 is switching to the dark side, and DavidR sold a lot of gear to buy a D800. friscomgm in the sell section is switching too, been a member since 2004.

I suspect this trend will increase as the D800 is closer to release.
