I currently own the sigma 30mm and I would like to get the Tamron (non VC) instead because I would like the extra range for walk-around shooting. I also have The tokina 11-16 and the (seldom used) 28-135mm kit lens. Lately when I walk around, I carry both the Tokina and the Sigma but I think I would just resort to carrying the Tamron alone. I usually stop my Sigma down a few stops anyway so I don't think I will mind going from 1.4 to 2.8, but is the image quality on par with the Sigma in terms of sharpness, colors and contrast? Anyone own both of these lenses? How do they compare?

sell the 28-135 and save for the Tamron. if you have a good copy of teh Sigma, dont sell it, unless you dont use it. its a great lens and VERY different than the Tamron 17-50. both are good lenses though.

I owned both lenses. I like sigma a lot. the bokeh is absolutely stunning. If I'm shooting indoor, I'll be using sigma more often. But if flexibility is my concern ex: wedding or shooting landscape outdoor, I'll be using tamron. so yes, if you have good copy of sigma, don't sell it. sell your 28-135 is highly recommended. I don't know about tokina, but if money is your concern and you don't shoot architecture/landscape that much, consider to trade both canon and tokina for tamron. I heard sigma 17-50 OS is better IQ but little more expensive.

I believe I have a good copy of the sigma, haven't had any focusing issues, and I completely forgot about selling my 28-135mm as an option, so I think I will proceed with that, I'm not sure if the sigma version is worth the few extra hundred dollars for me, being that photography is a hobby and not a profession. I want to keep my Tokina however, I use it a lot to shoot astro and I do want to get into shooting landscape.

The Sigma is pretty useful otherwise... I'd sell the 28-135 and sock away for the 17-50 instead...

Keep in mind the Sigma is still 2 stops faster than the 17-50, And thats really handy
